After public and stakeholder feedback, SDC has updated its initial proposals for the land east of the High Street. Key elements of the updated plan include a new energy-efficient leisure centre, a central hub and market hall, enhanced pedestrian links and landscaping to encourage communal spaces, eco-friendly new housing with dedicated car parking, traffic reduction measures and the retention of a library.
SDC plan to appoint a development partner by the end of 2025 to refine ideas and engage more public input. The project cost is estimated at £120 million to be self-financed via income from the new housing developments. We encourage residents to stay up to date on the plan and the call for public comment.
